Round up of Recent Constituency Engagements

In addition to my duties in Parliament, I have visited a number of groups and organisations in the constituency which include among others:

  • Chairing a public meeting at Highfield Road Baptist Church about speeding and crime in the local area.
  • Meeting with residents of Eastfield Road, Wellingborough to listen to their concerns about overdevelopment.
  • Attending a public protest meeting about parking issues in Spencer Road.
  • Re-elected as the Treasurer to the All Party Parliamentary Group on Trafficking of Women and Children.
  • Attending the 60th Anniversary Celebration of the NHS at Westminster Abbey.
  • Addressing a group of local businesses at the regular business briefings I hold.
  • Attending a meeting in Parliament with faith groups regarding the imprisonment of a British citizen in Brazil.
  • Presenting prizes to pupils at the Wrenn School Prize giving evening.
  • Re-elected as the Secretary of the Associate Parliamentary Group for Justice for Road Traffic Victims
  • Attending a protest meeting with concerned local residents at Higham Ferrers Post Office regarding the Government’s plans to abolish the Post Office Card Account.
  • Addressing a meeting to protest against the proposed closure of Wellingborough’s Driving Test Centre.
  • Attending the opening of the Midsummer Housing Project
  • Attending the Party in the Park at Rushden

    • Meeting with the Furnace Lance Action Group regarding overdevelopment in the north of Wellingborough
    • Attending the Rushden Salvation Army’s anniversary celebration and touring its facilities
    • Hosting a visit in Wellingborough with the Conservative Shadow Secretary for Works and Pensions Chris Grayling MP
    • Meeting with Wellingborough Homes
    • Meeting with the Chief Executive and Senior Officers at Wellingborough Council
    • Meeting with the Chief Superintendent of Police in Kettering
    • Attending the Annual Dinner of Pharmacists to which I was invited by Northamptonshire representatives
    • Visiting South Cambridgeshire as requested by the Conservative Shadow Health Secretary Andrew Lansley MP
    • Attending Newton Bromswold Parish Council meeting listen to concerns about the proposed renewable energy site.
    • Meeting with representatives from Biogen regarding renewable energy
    • Attending the Wellingborough Voluntary Community Sector Forum AGM at the Victoria Centre
    • Meeting with former pupils of Finedon Boys School at a reception in the House of Commons
    • Visiting Rushden Community College to talk to students
    • Attending the Associate Parliamentary Group for Justice for Road Traffic Victims AGM of which I am Secretary
    • Meeting with the residents of Crispian Court in Rushden to talk about elderly care provision
    • Attending a protest meeting in Irchester about the siting of a skate park in the village
    • Present petition to Parliament re driving centre closure
    • Attend local business breakfasts 
    • Judging fancy dress competition at Highfield Improvement Project, Rushden

 

  • The meeting that is missing from the above list is the one I was meant to have with the Health Minister at Kettering General Hospital. This was cancelled by the Government at the last minute but I am working on rearranging the meeting. 

I also continue to see dozens of constituents at my weekly advice surgery normally held every Friday in the constituency. In addition I receive up to 1000 letters, telephone calls and emails each week.
