HIGHAM FERRERS POST OFFICE CELEBRATES POST OFFICE CARD ACCOUNT RESCUE
Peter Bone, Member of Parliament for Wellingborough and Rushden will be joining local residents at Higham Ferrers Post Office this Friday (21 November 2008) at 12 noon to celebrate the u-turn by the Government to keep the Post Office Card Account.
Many local people use the Post Office Card Account to access their benefits each week, including pensioners. When the Government put forward proposals to abolish the Card Account there was uproar all over the constituency.
Mr Bone visited Higham Ferrers Post Office in July to collect hundreds of campaign postcards asking the Government to retain the Post Office Card Account.
Mr Bone says: ‘I am delighted that the Government has now seen sense and has decided to retain the Post Office Card Account. Local people have already been severely affected by the Government’s obsession with closing down our Post Offices and cutting back on vital public services. I am pleased that the Government has actually listened to my constituents on this issue.’
