PETER BONE MP TO PRESENT TIN OF SARDINES TO

TRANSPORT SECRETARY

Peter Bone, Member of Parliament for Wellingborough and Rushden will question the Secretary of State for Transport today (Tuesday 25 November 2008) on the severe overcrowding on East Midlands Trains.

Mr Bone has lent his support to the campaign group Sardine Trains which campaigns for more capacity on services run by East Midlands Trains. The Sardine Train Group plan to send tins of sardines to the Managing Director of East Midlands Trains to highlight passengers’ concerns about overcrowding on trains.

Mr Bone will ask the Secretary of State on Tuesday whether he should be receiving tins of sardines instead of East Midlands Trains.

Mr Bone also has a meeting with the Managing Director of East Midlands Trains this Wednesday (26 November) at 4pm where he will bring up the issue of overcrowding on trains.

Mr Bone says: ‘I support the Sardine Train Group’s ‘In a Can’ campaign to highlight the lack of capacity on East Midlands Trains. I have been inundated with complaints from commuters since East Midlands Trains took over the Wellingborough to London St Pancras franchise last year.

‘The service on our trains has been cut yet ticket prices keep rising. This is unacceptable I will be taking the matter up with the Secretary of State for Transport and the Managing Director of East Midlands Trains this week.’
