PETER BONE MP DEMANDS ANSWERS FROM GOVERNMENT OVER RUSHDEN OUTPATIENTS

Peter Bone, Member of Parliament for Wellingborough and Rushden today (Tuesday 10 February) demanded answers from the Health Minster over the decision to close Rushden Outpatients Facilities and to move them to Irthlingborough.

At today’s session of oral questions to the Secretary of State for Health in the House of Commons Peter Bone asked:

‘In Rushden an outpatients facility is being closed.

6,000 of my constituents have written to me demanding that a replacement facility be built in Rushden. The NHS’s own weighted criteria says the facility should be based in Rushden and the site is available in Rushden for immediate occupancy.

But instead the facility is planned to be in a small town in another constituency which already has a minor injuries unit and is having a new hospital built.

So what’s the difference between the two sites? The first is in the marginal Conservative seat of Wellingborough. The other is in the marginal Labour seat of Corby whose Member of Parliament is a Health Minster.

Is it not true that this miserable Government is deciding locations of health facilities not based on need but for political advantage?’
