David has served on East Northamptonshire Council for the last ten years, the last three being the Deputy Leader of the council. In addition, he was one of two Councillors from East Northamptonshire chosen by the Government to form the Shadow Executive of the North Northamptonshire Council. He was given the portfolio of Growth & Infrastructure but as an Executive member was involved in all the major decision making in setting up the new Council.

David is an avid supporter of the Rushden Lakes scheme and spoke at the Public Enquiry in support. He believes that this development will be responsible for keeping disposable income in the area and thereby kick-starting the regeneration of Rushden as a whole.  He was also involved in the improvements to the Splash Pool, Pemberton Centre and the Nene Centre in Thrapston. Away from the Council, enjoys watching first-class cricket and has recently retired from umpiring top-class hockey and now spends Saturday afternoons in the winter coaching Umpires who are learning their trade.
