Councillor Malcolm Waters

Malcolm Waters

Wellingborough is my hometown. I was born here, I grew up here, spent my working life here and lived in the Hatton division for over 40 years. I represented this area as a Borough Councillor for 38 years on the Hemmingwell Ward (now RixonWard) and more recently with my wife (Veronica), on the Redwell Ward. I served on the Borough Council of Wellingborough for almost 40 years, and have experience on all the major committees, chairing many of them. I had the honour of being elected as mayor of the Borough of Wellingborough twice. Firstly in 1994 and more recently in 2016. I was made a Freeman of the Borough two years ago, for my long-standing public service.

At the County level, I have represented the Hatton Division for the last 25 years. As a County Councillor, I have been involved with children’s services, adoption committee, adult social care, development, and scrutiny.  Therefore, I can offer a wealth of experience to the new Unitary Council. I believe it is very important to have a face-to-face meeting with residents as well as being at the end of an email or telephone. Therefore, the local people know me and know I am there for them. When new street lighting was installed throughout the county there was an area in Redwell which featured old-style Victorian lampposts.  I persuaded the county to use a special updated version of these traditional lights in this area, much to the relief and delight of the residents. I will strongly support the ongoing regeneration of the Redwell sports centre for the benefit of local people. I have a total commitment to the Hatton Division, and I hope to use my years of experience to best represent the Hatton Division in the new North Northamptonshire Unitary Council.
