Rushden Conservatives WIN Spencer South By-election

The by-election on 27 October 2022 for Spencer South Ward was brought about following the sad death of a remarkable councillor, Cllr Sarah Peacock, who worked tirelessly for the people within the Spencer South Ward and for the whole of Rushden.  She was a Town Councillor since 2004 and was Leader for 10 years.  She also served on the former East Northants Council up to its merger into North Northants Council and was instrumental in bringing about the outstanding success of the Greenway project that has created a safe route for walkers and cyclists along the old railway track in Rushden.

The Conservative team within Rushden campaigned actively throughout the campaign period to secure a WIN for our candidate, Tony Spooner.

Tony Spooner

Tony, moved to Rushden in February 2016 with his partner, Lauren, and daughter, Isabel.  He immediately began integrating with the local community and learning about Rushden.  He joined Rushden Round Table in 2019, becoming its Chairman in 2021/22, and played an active role in the organisation of the Christmas sleigh rounds.  He also assisted in organising Funfest and other fundraising events for Round Table.  Prior to standing for election to Spencer South, Tony took the lead on a campaign against the fly problem that plagues that area of the town.

Tony believes that to fully understand the people he represents, he needs to be one of them and as a small business owner and 33 yr old parent, he couldn’t be closer to the majority of his constituents.

Rushden Conservatives wholeheartedly welcome the win that secured Tony Spooner as a councillor for Rushden Town Council.  With his energy and positivity, he will undoubtedly make a huge contribution to the work of the Council in moving the town forward to the benefit of all.
